Ashirbad Behera conditional gets bail from HC

Orissa High Court today granted conditional bail to former Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Ashirbad Behera in Artha Tatwa chit fund scam. The bail was granted on two sureties of Rs 1.5 lakh each. Apart from surrendering passport, the court has asked Behera not to influence the probe and witnesses in the case.

Behera, also a forment Secretary of Odisha Olympic Association, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the basis of a non-bailable warrant issued by Special CJM, CBI court earlier this year on September 19.

According to reports, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against Beheras and Director of AT Group on August 29 under several sections of IPC and Prize Chits & Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.

Behera was admitted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on September 23 after he complained of loose motion and was then shifted to the SCB Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack on September 26. He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since then.

Earlier, Behera had termed his arrest a conspiracy citing that the timing coincided with elections of new office bearers of Odisha Cricket Association. Interestingly, his panel made a clean sweep of all the posts, including that of the secretary which was won by his son Sanjay Behera.
